This project was to design a variety of assets for the 2024 Sundance film festival by creating a cohesive and scalable style. When starting out on this project I found through research that the vast majority of attendees were Utah residents and so I wanted to pick something that was relevant to Utah. Further research revealed a multitude of possibilities but I narrowed it down to theming around Gold or Bees. This was because Gold is Utah’s largest export and because Utah is the beehive state. In general the Bee theme seemed to be a stronger and more interesting concept so I ended up going with that. When developing the style for this project I wanted to do something that was similar to the designs Sundance has been using the last couple of years. This meant a fairly minimal and mostly type focused design with only a few colors on each element. Also a lot of blocky and bold text with flat colors. Obviously the actual design itself is black and yellow stripes because it is meant to be bee inspired. I chose to style the letters in the way I did (Touching each other + other elements) to make it more visually interesting while maintaining the style and adding a little bit of the avant-garde style the previous Sundance themes had.
